The government's Carbon Plan, launched on Tuesday 8th March lays out a vision of a low carbon economny and actions required to achieve it.

Local government is singled out within the public sector as having a vital role to play in harnessing the enthusiasm that exists as the local level for tackling climate change.

DECC and the LGA will work together to help and ecourage all councils to make cuts in carbon emissions from their own estate and operations, lead on reducing carbon emissions from homes, businesses and transport, generating more from renewables and rolling out national carbon reduction initiatives at the local level, particularly the Green Deal, smart metering and renewable energy deployment.
