Services for Local Authorities

‘We have received excellent support from MEA on fuel poverty alleviation including strategy preparation, advice provision, creation of a local affordable warmth network, and access to additional revenue and capital funding in order to assist local residents. I warmly recommend their work to other LAs’. - Matt Locking, Energy Strategy Officer, Herefordshire Council

Fuel poverty remains, impacting on local residents' health and wellbeing. At its worst a cold home is also using up health and social care resource. Yet opportunities remain to 'invest to save', drawing down additional support for fuel poverty alleviation. We can help your Local Authority with:

  • Energy strategy and planning making you more attractive to new potential funders, such as energy companies. This could include support with updating affordable warmth or climate change strategies, housing stock reviews, completing HECA reports, data mining to improve targeting or preparing Flexible Eligibility statements.
  • Providing an independent energy phone-line service for all your householders to access. This can include support with promotion and marketing, a dedicated phone number and website, home visits, policy updates, referrals and signposting to a range of partners and feedback on targets achieved. They are run by experienced and qualified project managers, ably supported by local volunteers.
  • Maximising inflows of new revenue and capital funding from energy companies, government funds, trust funds etc, as opportunity allows. This could include Energy Company Obligation funding, energy company CSR monies, creating bespoke capital pots from energy company fines, revenue funding for home visits or income maximisation.
  • Building and upskilling local health and care networks on energy, health and cold homes, and local community networks on climate change.
