Marches Energy Agency (MEA) is an independent not for profit organisation with charitable status. We are governed by a board of trustees and currently have 18 members of staff. We are united by a common interest in promoting the sustainable use of energy and the wider principles of sustainable development.

As an organisation we understand the importance of joined up thinking. Our transport patterns are pretty good - we almost always use public transport, and when it's not possible we have an impressive fleet of alternative vehicles including a honda Insight electric hybrid (registration B CO2 LOW!) which although still a part of the fossil fuel paradigm, returns much greater efficiencies than a standard car (83 mpg average) and is an example of how we should be making the most of our remaining fossil fuels whilst we explore the alternatives. Our newest addition is a van fuelled by Pure Plant Oil and then there's our Brompton folding bike which has saved us countless taxi fares - and that means more money for projects.

At the office we recycle our waste and we order our supplies from local likeminded companies wherever possible. A locally made wind turbine and PV panel power some things in the kitchen, like our coffee machine (which in turn powers most of us through those difficult mornings).

It's not just a job for us here at MEA either, we're passionate about this stuff. That's why we try and set a good example in all that we do, whether it's through buying local organic food, generating our own renewable energy for our homes or running our own vehicles on 100% biodiesel (we used to ahve our own tank in the car park).  We're keen to advocate the need for change - we don't want to blow our own trumpets though, nobody's perfect, but we are trying...
